Senate Elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Postponed
Pakistan Prime: Pakistan’s Senate elections faced a hurdle today, as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) postponed polling in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. This decision comes amidst an ongoing controversy surrounding the oath-taking ceremony for members elected on reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly.
The ECP maintains that a complete electoral college, including members from reserved seats, is essential for conducting fair and transparent Senate elections. However, these members have not yet been sworn in, prompting concerns about their disenfranchisement and the potential for an incomplete electoral process.
Opposition parties in the KP Assembly had previously submitted a request to the ECP, urging them to postpone the elections due to the unresolved oath issue. The ECP, after considering the request, opted to delay polling for all 11 Senate seats in the province.
This development has drawn criticism from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, which alleges bias on the part of the ECP. The situation highlights the complexities surrounding the electoral process in Pakistan and the importance of ensuring inclusivity and fairness.
