Qazi Faez Isa seeks proof of rigging, calling Commissor Rawalpindi’s claims “baseless”
Pakistan Prime: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa emphasized the insignificance of making “baseless allegations” devoid of truth or supporting evidence, stating that such claims “do not hold any weightage.” This statement from the chief justice followed remarks by Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaquat Ali Chatha, who asserted that the chief election commissioner and the chief justice were “also completely involved” in alleged election rigging.
During an informal exchange with media personnel in Islamabad, the CJP addressed the issue, stating, “Someone can blame me for theft or murder tomorrow. If hurling allegations is your right, give me evidence along with it too.” The chief justice emphasized the importance of substantiating accusations with credible evidence rather than relying on unsubstantiated claims.
The Chief Justice also clarified that his involvement in the February 8 general elections was restricted to directing President Arif Alvi and the chief election commissioner to determine an election date. Addressing reporters in Islamabad, the chief justice emphasized that the Supreme Court judges did not issue any orders regarding the polls.
He stated, “Let me make this clear… and you all say this often. An argument was ensuing between the president and CEC, so we [merely] told them to sit and decide.” CJP Isa underscored that if someone else opposed the occurrence of elections, it was a separate matter.
Furthermore, CJP Isa revealed that there were more than two attempts to postpone the elections while he was departing for a holiday on December 16, but the Supreme Court intervened and took notice of the situation.
